The bold thing about this drawing is the line I used for the bill of the hat is completely dry. I used a prismacolor marker for it.

Political Figures

I'm tryin to get in the swing of drawing celebrities. It's a very different game, drawing from photos and video, but I think we park caricaturists have some fresh ideas to offer the world of editorial illustration. These drawings don't necessarily portray that in full, but there are hints of it. Retail caricature can potentially be a breeding ground for new approaches and ideas for cartooning, as long as artists feel they don't have to be afraid of the customer.

Soul Rebels

These were some of the coolest customers I've ever had. When I show up to work I wait around for a couple hours with no business at all. All the while, fuming inside because I want to draw and nobody wants to sit down, and some people say, "we'll come back" later, and none of those people did. If you're a park caricature artist, you know what I'm talking about. Then these people come up. I can tell they're respectful of art. Look at them. She's got dreads and big earholes. He's got on a soul rebel shirt. And they don't say any of the nonsense about don't draw this or that. A short ways into the picture, the girl was like, "Are you into graffiti or anything." Whataya know, I just started messing with it about a week ago -- putting letters together and such. They were cool, cuz they said the right things. They shut up most the time and didn't appear uncomfortable. They loved the drawing. My firend, Matt McBrien checks out my blog from time to time and told me that I should write more. Well... I just did.

Aaron Phiby Comes Correct For the Most Part

I like this one quite a bit but the eyebrows are to thick and empahsized and angry. Other than that, I really like it.
For these sketches, instead of using a Dixon Markette I used a Prismacolor Marker. The top and bottom sketch were done with a brown marker.

Two Rejects

Yes. The word bubble came after. This lovable punk likes drumming and manatees. I like drawing circular eyes and peanut heads.

I found this reject so fetching I decided to hang it up at the stand in place of the drawing the misguided woman wanted me to precisely replicate. I hope she finds my website and chokes on her crumpetts.

Drawings With Time Restriction

This was done in a coffee shop gig in Findlay OH. The place is called Coffee Amici. They have a website and forum. http://www.coffeeamici.com/mod/gallery/ In the photos section there're some other drawings I've done. Unfortunately, It's just the drawing without a photo of the subject.
I don't think she liked her drawing so much, but I did and she was very cordial.
I had to put two crappy photos together for this one to give you an idea of what they looked like.

This is a classy dame by the name of Jordan. She's into cognitive science. If you can't see the likeness, don't fret, I'll draw her agane.

Convention Caricatures

This is the drawing I was most satisfied with from the Ohio Minicorn.
I kinda liked this one too. I just wish his chin looked more like a chin.

Illustration Friday

This is a superhero named Alpha Male. Alpha Male rides a bicycle, and likes to cook brocoli. He is the most powerful of all modern human beings. He likes to cook brocoli and he's confident enough to have long hair like a girl. The ladies adore Alpha Male, and he saves the day by hitting people with his pan and he wears sandals everywhere because he likes to let his feet breathe and this is his weakness because sometimes little stones get in there and he has to stop and shake them out. Alpha Male wears circle rimmed glasses which you might think is nerdy, but they are a very low perscription, which the ladies adore.

I was really happy with this drawing except for one huge glaring error. Perhaps you can spot it.

I didn't give this girl enough chin, but I thought this one was pretty fun.

Jackin Some Animals

My friends and I were sitting around and sketching and we decided to try to draw some animals real crazy like. We'd decid on an animal, and then we'd all draw it. The elephant is my favorite.
